How I’m preparing for ITC Europe
ITC Europe in Barcelona is fast approaching. This will be my 5th time attending, and I’ve learnt that preparing beforehand is key.
It’s the perfect opportunity to build relationships, generate new business, and stay close to what’s really happening in the market. Here are some of my top tips:
1. Prep before you get there - The real work starts before the event.
I’ll be using the event app and LinkedIn to:
- Identify who I want to meet
- Reach out early with short, personalised messages
- Look for mutual connections and be intentional
Generic messages don’t work. Most people get loads of them. A bit of context goes a long way.
Also worth getting your pitch and materials ready in advance. Meetings are short and time goes quickly. You need something clear and engaging, and a good reason for people to want to meet you.
2. Book smart - It’s easy to overfill your diary and miss out on valuable networking opportunities.
I normally load Day 1 with meetings and keep Day 2 more flexible for follow-ups and exploring the expo. Some of the best conversations happen between sessions, at the beer lounges, or over coffee, so it’s worth leaving space.
3. Be meeting ready - Meetings are short and time flies.
Go in prepared, keep it clear, and leave time at the end to agree next steps. It’s much easier than chasing after the event.
4. Get involved in the social events - Networking doesn’t stop after the sessions, and these are some of the best opportunities to build new connections.
ITC have put on some great events including:
- Gaudí Walking Tour and Opening Beach Party
- Tapas Happy Hour
- Women in Insurance and Young Professionals Meetups
ITC Europe brings the market together in one place and it’s your opportunity to seize the moment. If you go in with a plan and prepare properly, you’ll get a lot out of it.
The countdown has officially begun!
